Progressive International Magnetic Measuring Spoons Review

A great idea. I bought these about a year ago (an all-white set from Crate and Barrel, but same brand) and tossed out my stainless attached-with-a-ring set. I can grab the spoon I need and not have to wash the whole set. And the oval-shaped end is great for fitting into the mouthes of spice jars. A lovely gift for your favorite baker.

Cuisinart Green Gourmet Eco-Friendly Skillets Review

I am an avid home chef and a fervent hater of nonstick cookware. I went through so many sets of nonstick in my early married years, everything from the $30 "whole kitchen in a box" set I got as wedding gift to a "top of the line" set that my mother-in-law gave me years later. I babied the stuff, but it still wound up scratched and peeling and in the trash. And, I never liked the cooking performance of any of it. So, many years ago I threw it all out and bought an 18/10 stainless set- which I love and praise to anyone who will listen, and have never had to replace a single piece of. BUT, even I will admit that it's tough to get a decent fried egg from a stainless pan, so I kept an 8" nonstick skillet around just for that purpose. It was needing to be replaced so I decided to go with hard anodized. Hesitantly, I was going to get another brand with the teflon type finish. Then I saw this, and liked the idea of the the ceramic type finish. I can't tell you how much I love this pan. It fries beautifully. Sears salmon and steaks. Cleans with a wipe and a rinse. I have had this for a couple of months, used it MANY times, and am getting ready to buy the 12" for bigger jobs. Even my 8 year old can make beautiful(no tears)fried eggs with it. Oh, and did you know that you can thaw meats faster in it. Hard anodized is an amazing conducter of heat, so it pulls the cold out of the food. Just set it on the counter (covered) and wait about 20 minute (depends on thickness of the meat) turn it over once and voila you have thawed meat.

Cook up delicious, healthy meals for your family with the environmentally minded Cuisinart Green Gourmet Hard Anodized 12-inch open skillet with helper handle, featuring Cuisnart's new energy-efficient and eco-friendly Cermica nonstick surface. But more than just reducing your carbon footprint, this new nonstick coating allows for easy food release and the ability to use less fat while cooking as well as for use in the oven for browning.
From eggs at breakfast to fish, chicken, or steak at dinnertime, this 12-inch open skillet is a great all-round performer. This pan also delivers superior heat conductivity, requiring less energy to achieve the desired cooking temperature. Harder than stainless steel, the skillet's hard anodized exterior is dense, nonporous, and highly wear-resistant for extra durability and professional performance as well as quick and even heat distribution. Additionally, the securely riveted stay-cool steel handle--featuring a V-shaped base so that heat dissipates--is manufactured using 70 percent recycled stainless steel and is oven-safe to 500 degrees F, so food can be browned on the stovetop then transferred to the oven to finish cooking.
Cuisinart's GreenGourmet cookware is designed with an exclusive Cuisinart Ceramica nonstick surface, which features a petroleum-free, ceramic-based coating that is applied at a temperature one half that of traditional nonsticks. The coating does not contain PTFE and PFOA, substances often used in nonstick cookware that have raised health concerns over the years. It was also developed using manufacturing techniques that reduce harmful carbon emissions by consuming less energy. The coating is also water-based, unlike other nonstick coatings on the market, which are solvent-based. In addition, Cuisinart's cookware has a scratch-resistant nonstick surface that won't peel off. The new cookware conforms to FDA and European RoHS standards for environmentally sound products.
This pan should be hand-washed with a mild detergent, and it carries a limited lifetime warranty against defects. Cuisinart also gets some green cred from the packaging, which is made from 100 percent recycled materials and is printed using 100 percent biodegradable soy ink. --Agen G.N. Earth Pan II by Farberware Square Griddles Review

Earth Pan II by Farberware Square Griddles

I was expecting the same performance out of this non-stick pan as from the chemical laden pans. I guess that was a bit hopeful. The pan works well, and you can dry fry some vegetables and they will not stick. However, if they burn even a little, that dark spot will be very difficult to remove. This is the problem with the pan. If/when something actually sticks to it, its not easy to clean.
Outside of that, eggs don't stick, pancakes don't stick. That's all I really wanted.

Get serious about your cooking and your green credentials while you add style to your kitchen with this 11-inch nonstick griddle from Farberware's Earth Pan II line in terra cotta It features an aluminum construction that heats up quickly and helps reduce hot spots that can cook foods unevenly--great for everything from pancakes to fish. The dual riveted stainless steel handle is covered with a thick, comfortable silicone holder, and both the pan and silicone handle are oven safe to 600 degrees F. The handle also includes a hole for hanging. Earth Pan cookware works on all cooking surfaces, except for induction cookers.
The foundation of all Earth Pan cookware is the unique SandFlow nonstick coating that originates from sand--used to manufacture kitchenware like glass and silicone bakeware. Just like the nonstick pans you've used over the years, Earth Pan cookware is formulated to provide excellent food release without use of cooking oils, and the pans are easy to clean. Based on industry lab tests, SandFlow nonstick surfaces are three times more durable than ceramic-based surfaces and they require 33 percent less energy to cure than traditional nonstick pans.
The SandFlow coating does not contain PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene, also known as the brand name Teflon) or PFOA (a key processing agent in making nonstick and stain-resistant materials, including Teflon)--both of which have raised health concerns in recent years. Laboratory animals exposed to high doses of PFOA suffered cancer, low birth weight and a suppressed immune system, though PTFE-manufactured nonstick cookware is considered an insignificant exposure source of PFOA.
This skillet is dishwasher safe, though handwashing is recommended to ensure longevity. Metal utensils and abrasive cleaners or brushes should be avoided. Earth Pan's packaging material and inserts are made from at least 50 percent recycled fiber with all materials being 100 percent recyclable.

Cuisinart GG-12 GreenGourmet Eco-Friendly Nonstick Hard Anodized 12-Piece Cookware Set Review

We have now been using this set for 6 months. When we first received and began using them, the pans were perfectly nonstick so that food including eggs could be cooked without any oil, and cleaning was fast and easy. Unfortunately this is no longer true -- the pan we've used most often now requires oil in order than food doesn't stick, despite hand-washing and following the manufacturer's other directions. If no oil is used, the pan is like a traditional pan and not only does food stick, but the pan requires prolonged soaking and scrubbing to get it clean. You must also be careful not to stack the pans (chipping and scratching).
The pan handles do not get hot, but the lid handles do, so be prepared to use a potholder to move the lids.
The set must be hand-washed and handled carefully to avoid chipping, but this is not a problem for us.
I would have rated the set 5 stars had it retained its nonstick performance. The loss of the nonstick capacity and the subsequent difficulty with cleaning the pans drops my rating to two stars.
1/3/10 Edited to add: We've now been using this set for a year and I've noticed several minute to small chips out of the cooking surfaces of more that half the pieces. We do not use metal utensils (silicon only) and are careful with cleaning and storing. One piece has also absorbed the smell of the food that was cooked in it. I am now looking for a different set of cookware, and regret buying this one. While I prefer a "green," eco-friendly product, I think this one needs some improvements in quality and design.
