(More customer reviews)This is a clever, well designed measuring cup, but since it is made of plastic, do NOT use it with fats (oils, creams, yolks, etc.). Any substance that includes fat will chemically attract to the plastic in the measuring cup (and vice versa), making it VERY difficult to get completely clean. While I prefer this design to my trusty Pyrex glass measuring container, I don't like to have to think twice about using it with some ingedients. If they ever make a glass version of this cup, I'll buy two!

Smart enough to have made it onto a national TV morning show, this innovative design makes you wonder why it took someone this long to invent it! And that the people at OXO should be the ones will come as no surprise. As you pour into this measuring cup you don't have to scrunch down to eye level, or gingerly lift the cup to see if you've got the right amount. (More customer reviews)I originally purchased a Soehlne Hippo scale and gave it four stars. It went "bonkers" in less than 30 days, so I updated my review and would have downgraded it to "1" star, if I had been able to do so. I replaced the defective scale with the Salter 6055, which was the other scale that I considered purchasing. So far, I'm extremely pleased with the Salter. If it lasts longer than 30 days (the Soehlne didn't), then it's definitely a 5 star piece of equipment. The scale is more compact than the Soehlne, much more "hefty" in feel, and very much easier to use. The on/off, tare, and kg/lb buttons require only a light touch to operate. The readout is clear and actually shows weights in both odd and even amounts. The ounce/lb. readout shows amounts in 1/8 oz. increments; very nice touch. The removeable weighing platform is extremely handy; if you're a "messy" baker, which I am, you don't have to fret about water or soap damage to the electronic components. Based on the short time I've had to try out this item, I'd definitely purchase a Salter product instead of a Soehlne.

... the FOUR MINUTE before auto-cutoff. Not like the Taylor scale I had that cut off after one minute of nonuse. It was always cutting off on me before I was finished with it.
... and NO DEFAULT SCALE It's the same as when you last turned it off (if you were using grams, the next time you turn it on it's still in grams, OR ounces at OFF then it's ounces at ON). Tap the button to change g/oz on the fly.
... AND it holds A FULL ELEVEN pounds (5kg). I put a bag of flour on it, set tare, and scoop out until it reads xx-ounces (virtually impossible with a 6# scale).
Yeah, I was a chef for many years and more interested in utility over aesthetics in my equipment. I buy flour in 5# or 10# bags now instead of 50# or 100#. I used to have to have several scales -- one for portions and and one for weighing things like yeast and salt, and bigger ones for things like flour and meats. Now 11# is sufficient and this is still accurate enough for yeast and salt.
... Okay, so it's plastic instead of yuppie glass and chrome. It's accurate and well designed -- not heavy, temperamental, or hard to clean. It just works.
... Oh, and it doesn't use strange batteries (regular old AA batteries so you don't go into conniptions when you need replacements)

I can grab the spoon I need and not have to wash the whole set. And the oval-shaped end is great for fitting into the mouthes of spice jars. A lovely gift for your favorite baker.

(More customer reviews)I really like the convenience of this scale allowing for weights up to 22 pounds. It is attractive and zeros out easily with the knob. I've noticed that it sometimes gives minor differences in weight with some lighter weight objects. If I put a large item on the scale without the basket I have to be extremely careful to get it on just right or it will tip. If you are weighing large boxes I would skip this one. It is perfectly fine for smaller items that are heavyweight however.
