(More customer reviews)**This review is for the six-quart model*** Toss out your bulky colander and steamer, this takes care of all of that. In case the photo isn't clear I'll try and describe how this works. The upper section is a removable steamer basket, it fits into the bottom piece similar to how a double boiler works. The great thing is that you can put in plenty of water while steaming so you don't have to worry about "running dry" and ruining the pot. The drain feature is quite clever. In the photo the drain is just barely visible, it is just under the glass lid. The drain is a separate removable piece of stainless steel, it is a half circle and locks in place by simply turning it 90 degrees. If it doesn't want to lock don't force it, just jiggle it a bit and it should lock easily. To drain you remove the glass lid, then hold both handles and tilt the whole thing over the sink. You would think that since the drain is a half circle that food would fall out when you tilt it but it doesn't. The nice thing is that after you have drained the water out the food is still in the pot staying warm from the residual heat, instead of cooling off too quickly like it does in a regular colander. Note - when draining it's a bit heavy holding it up while it drains, considering the weight of the pot, the food, and the water that you are draining. But as long as you have a good grip on the handles it's not too bad, at least for the six-quart model. I found it's easier to hold the pot out over the sink and tilt it towards me, which is easier to hold and I can also see what's going on. The first time you do it it might make you nervous tilting a pot of hot water towards you instead of away from you but that's what works best for me. I recommend do a trial run first with cold water to find what works best for you. Also I haven't tried the 8-quart because I don't need something that big and I think it would be heavier and more difficult to hold while draining, so unless you really need something that large I would recommend the 6-quart.
