The body is made of durable plastic so if you happen to drop it there's not much chance it will break. I really like that it has a magnet on the back - allowing me to keep it on the side of the fridge right next to the knife block!
The ceramic rods in this sharpener put a dependably keen edge on my knives with just 4-6 strokes. I use mine all the time and I would buy it again in a heartbeat.
