(More customer reviews)There's only 1 thing a coffee grinder should do -- grind coffee well. Like most of the other reviewers, I found that no amount of grinding will produce a grind that can even be considered acceptable. With small batches of beans, the product comes out in chunks of all sizes -- some beans are barely cut in half. Larger batches yeild somewhat better results, but still incredibly uneven. This is an expensive grinder that's not worth a penny.

(More customer reviews)I love the new look! We had the older version for about 6 years. This new one is sleeker and much easier to clean and keep clean (the inside where the grinder sits gets cakey due to condensation). I got it for $149, used Amazon Prime, and had it in a few days! I love it. If you're thinking of getting this grind and brew with stainless carafe, it is nice. Some parts will have to be replaced over the years like the older version, but the taste of the freshly ground coffee every day is worth it. I never pre-heat the carafe like the directions say because that defeats the purpose of the timer. I've never had an issue with the coffee temperature, it's always hot! I also recommend hand-washing over dishwasher. The carbon filters are similar to Brita and can be found for cheap at Kohl's. One other note is it only makes 10 cups as opposed to the typical 12 cups. This is fine for me because it's just me and my husband, but if you need to make a ton of coffee regularly, this may not be a good choice. Overall, I love it and I'm glad I traded up!

Well... I hate to admit this, but this beautiful coffee machine is now sitting in my pantry. It started to become a hassle cleaning this ALL the time! I ended up using paper filters, because I did not have the time to mess with the cleaning....
Well.... I ended up buying the Keurig Coffee System! I know some of you may frown on that decision, but I swear, the "bold coffee" in the Keurig System IS THE BEST for me! It is easy to use... nothing to clean up, and ready within a minute! I also do not waste the coffee anymore!
I will use my Cuisinart Grind-and-Brew again, but not anytime soon.

(More customer reviews)Hi. I've never done a video review before, so forgive me if I ramble or go off-topic. Feel free to skip through to any parts you think are relevant. I run the grinder for the first time about halfway through the video. The first half of the video is spent explaining why I bought a new grinder, and what I hope to get out of it (less mess, less noise, consistency in the grind.) Without giving away the surprise ending (there is no surprise), I can simply say that this is the best burr grinder I have ever owned. It is also only the second burr grinder I have ever owned, so I'm no expert :) Although, I was a barista for a couple years, and I can tell a quality grinder when I see it.

*EDIT* Having used the grinder every day since I received it (and sometimes twice daily), I feel I can now comment on its practical features. Although the grinder seems to create more static/dust when set to a more coarse grind (still negligible static compared to my old burr grinder), the lid on the glass grounds container does a good job of keeping the dust inside the container- not all over my counter. I love the consistency of the grind. No matter the setting, all the grounds seem to be of equal size, which means less sediment in my French press! The machine is also noticeably more quiet than any other grinder I have encountered- burr or otherwise. The twenty second timer fills up about half the grounds container, which is perfect for a 7-8 cup setting on my drip machine. All in all, I would still give it five stars. Capresso Cool Grind Coffee Grinders Review

I've only been using this grinder for a week with my Aeropress brewer so I'll keep it short... and yes, I purchased it because of the Cooks Illustrated recommendation.
It's noisy. The motor/bearing assembly seem to be cheaply constructed as it oscillates between a semi-smooth whirring and a nasty vibration sound while grinding.
It's slow. I bought the Krups 203 today to compare grind speed and consistency side by side... no contest. A 20 second grind using identical amounts of identical beans in each grinder yields a MUCH finer grind with the Krups. Grind consistency in both was close enough I suppose but the Krups grind looked more uniform, probably because it was finer.
This also brings up the point of the "cool grind" feature. It seems to me that you are negating any benefit if you have to grind twice as long (which heats up the beans more) to achieve the same consistency as the Krups.
The Krups motor also feels more powerful and it certainly runs more smoothly and has a more precise feel.
I'll wait a while to actually review the Krups officially but the Capresso was a disappointment and is going back to Amazon.
UPDATE:
OK... I added a star to the review... here's why...
The Capresso makes a superior TASTING cup of coffee compared to the Krups!
After using the Krups to actually make coffee I noticed a strange, chalky aftertaste/film left in my mouth by the Krups ground coffee. This is using the same beans I was using with the Capresso and trying many different grind times and coffee amounts, the funky taste was still there.
In disbelief I pulled the Capresso out of it's return box and made a cup with it... the funk was gone... wow.
Something about the higher RPM, more power, and/or blade profile of the Krups is not doing fresh coffee beans justice and I probably never would have caught this had I not tried both grinders.
I am still not happy with the QUALITY of the Capresso grinder so it will be returned (along with the Krups) but I have learned a valuable lesson about coffee taste being VERY noticably affected by the grinder and if this is the case, I have no choice but to try a burr grinder.

(More customer reviews)I chose this grind and brew after reading all of the reviews for this and similar machines. Frankly, I am surprised by the negative comments. This is an easy to use machine once it is set up properly (the bean hopper takes a little of effort to snap in). The coffee tastes great and the parts are very easy to clean quickly. While the instruction book is not clear, Cuisinart was very helpful on the phone. The machine does not know how much water you put in, so if you set it to grind coffee for 6 cups and you have 8 cups of water in it, it will process all 8 cups of water. Other than this small quirk, the machine is a small wonder and I do not feel compelled to go out for coffee in the morning. The thermos carafe will keep the coffee quite warm for a few hours, even when the carafe is not warmed up with hot water. Wondering why it took me so long to go ahead and buy this machine. This is the best model; my neighbor has the first generation/second generation machine which is hard to clean and has a large footprint. Save your money and buy this model!
Now that I have had the machine for a month and a half: It requires some cleaning to get the fine grounds that compress and stop the grinder and ground coffee to get into the filter for brewing. I use a bamboo chopstick and a skewer to break up the compressed fine grounds that impede the machine from working properly. (Unplug the machine and put it over the sink area). I also use compressed air to blow out the fine ground particles. Still, this is a small maintenance to allow for great coffee in the AM.

(More customer reviews)This coffee grinder was an impulse purchase and I was fully prepared to return it because I didn't expect it to work as advertised. To my astonishment, the darned thing actually does a pretty good job. I have tried several coffee grinders over the years and have ended up giving all of them away to friends and family. I gave up on burr grinders because they are messy, hard to clean, produce a bitter powder, and are so noisy you almost need earplugs to use them. The blade grinders I have tried produced an inconsistent grind size and you have to experiment with the number of seconds it takes to get the grind right for the quantity of coffee you want to make. If you want to make more cups or less, you have to experiment all over again with the number of seconds you need to grind the beans. I ended up just having the coffee shop grind my Kenya AA beans for me and I buy smaller amounts so the coffee won't go stale before I can use it all.
This Mr.Coffee grinder is the only one I've ever tried that I think I can live with. First of all, this is a $19.95 grinder and not a $300 precision instrument designed to produce a perfect cup of expresso. Within those parameters, it does a really good job. The electronic grind and cup quantity settings take all of the guess work out of using a blade grinder. With this grinder, you use the guide on the side of the unit to measure your beans, choose a grind setting and the number of cups of coffee you want to make and a processor apparently calculates everything for you. You just hold the grind button down and the machine turns itself off after the correct number of seconds. No grind time experimentation is needed and the machine seems to get the grind just right all by itself. Cleanup is a snap, just remove the bowl from the base unit and put it on the top rack of your dishwasher. The ground coffee is actually easier to empty from the bowl than with most blade grinders. Rather than having to turn the entire unit upside down and shaking the grounds into your coffeemaker, you just remove the grinder bowl, turn it upside down in a small plastic bowl, and tap it against the counter to get the coffee out.
The reviewer who complained about the short cord length apparently did not realize there is 3 feet of hidden cord wrapped around the inside of the base of the unit. All you have to do is pull it out.
While durability must be proven over time, I'm most impressed with this $19.95 grinder. Even if it only lasts for 2 years, you could afford to buy 30 of them for what a small professional grade burr grinder would cost and it's actually easier to live with than the pro grade grinder would be.
