(More customer reviews)Alright, i've had this hand mixer for two days now (did research for 3 weeks). I truly don't understand most of these poor reviews. I have already made a two layer cake with home made frosting using this product. I was able to basically kneed the frosting using the hand mixer with ease. I was probably using it for about 10 minutes and my arm felt fine during and after words. The product is very light weight, yet the motor is plenty efficient. Speed 5 is not very fast, but honestly, i probably wouldn't want it to go any faster. I hear some people having problems with speed 1 being the same as speed 5. Heres the thing, this product is smarter than a 1950's hand mixer. Instead of burning out the motor because your an idiot using speed 5 with cookie dough, it'll self protect and stay lower. The instruction manual clearly states which speed to use with which item you are baking. If you go above that, well then you should expect problems. Heres the difference between this, and my hand mixer from 1978. The 1978 hand mixer smells like burning rubber when on, the beaters are not turbo beaters, so they constantly clog (the turbo beaters are great). The 78 HM also is loud and the handle is extremely poorly placed. The kitchen aid hand mixer is much quieter (while not being silent of course), and the handle is specifically made to ease the stress on your arm and wrist.
Kitchenaid has gotten a few poor reviews on this product, but what you really have to realize, is how many thousands others have the product, use it weekly, and never have a problem. Kitchenaid is still the choice of pros, and 10, 15 years down the road, when you either have kids old enough to use one, or maybe you'll have grand kids, this little pup will still be beating away for you. I hope i was helpful to at least one person, in the long run, i think its the wiser choice.
other notes: If there is any confusion as to if the dough hooks and shake blender are included, yes they are. I havn't yet used them, but if you look them up, each are around 16-20 dollars a piece, and come free with this product. I've also heard the dough hooks are amazing. Baking bread will never be the same.

I got one and after just a few uses the flip top stuck open and would not close again.
I contacted the company, told them of my issue and they were very responsive; quick, friendly, etc.
They sent me another shaker free of charge.
Unfortunately, as I was showing someone how cool this product was, one finger flip open...it stuck again. It is like a hyper-extended joint that locks up. And won't close again.
The shaker strains very slowly as well. The hole on the underside of the strainer lid is pretty small. Not a huge complaint, but bothersome.
Anyway, I really want to like this product but the kinks make it unusable.

(More customer reviews)I got this blender because of the B&D name and price. I pretty much use it just for milkshakes. (I made salsa with it this summer too though.) I had intended to make baby food with it but haven't gotten to that point yet. It broke.
I was switching between speeds, nothing out of the ordinary, just pushing one button and then the next one, slowly increasing speed so that the milkshake would keep up inside, when the black spinner on top of the base absolutely blasted into 7 different pieces. Don't worry, it was put together correctly and I wasn't abusing it. Just doing normal use with milk and ice cream. I'm having trouble finding replacement parts. This was a $25 blender. Now this milkshake is going to cost me $25 more to get another blender! I should have taken the family to DQ. It would have been more cost-effective.
Only buy this blender if you're willing to stand beside it and coax it along. It doesn't crush ice well (leaves big chunks), it doesn't blend a full container well (mixes about half way and then leaves unmixed portion at the top), and don't even dare changing speeds while it's still spinning or you'll have little black pieces of plastic all over your counter!
What ever happened to the well-made metal blenders of the old days? These cheap plastic things are pretty near worthless!

Like most of the other reviewers, I found that no amount of grinding will produce a grind that can even be considered acceptable. With small batches of beans, the product comes out in chunks of all sizes -- some beans are barely cut in half. Larger batches yeild somewhat better results, but still incredibly uneven. This is an expensive grinder that's not worth a penny.

I keep my bread in the freezer, so it takes longer to toast. The first time I used it, I set it for too dark. The toast started burning. I tried pushing up on the lever like you would to most toasters, but nada! I had to unplug it to make it stop. Very poor design. Other than that, I like it. It's not only wide enough for bagels, but long enough for Branola or Orowheat bread, which not all
toasters are. I plug this into a surge surpressor now, so if it needs to come out early, I trip the surpressor, and the toast pops up.

The numbers 18/0 and 18/8 refer to the percentage of content of chromium and nickel. To be classified as stainless steel, the metal must contain at least 11% chromium (no nickel required). Stainless steel used in cookware is normally 18% chromium and 8% to 10% nickel.
Low end stainless steel cookware, mixing bowls, stockpots and accessories are usually 18/0, which are usually not highly polished, and could be subject to some rust spotting.

(More customer reviews)This could be a very good heater option for some people, if the features fit what you need.
It takes up relatively little floor space, and the pedestal design puts the heater up a little higher, if that suits your needs. (A regular tower heater might be fine for lots of people, though.)
It's 30 tall" and the base is a 12" circle. The top part is about 7.5" wide at the top (the widest part).
Pros:
- High 1500W (5118 BTU) and low 900W (3070 BTU) settings. And two fan speeds to go with that - the fans runs more slowly and quieter on low - which is a feature that's missing on many heaters for some inexplicable reason.
- Quiet for a heater with a fan, especially on the low setting. (But that can't be used with the auto thermostat setting, see below!)
- Well built, and well packed.
- The light weight and convenient handle, at the top of the back, make it easy to carry and move around.
- The controls are well placed, easy to read, and make sense - they do the things you'd think they should.
- The LCD shows the room temperature and the thermostat setting, exactly - no guessing on a dial with marks around it! Both seem very accurate - it matches a digital thermometer I have in the room.
Cons:
- The biggest one by far for me - the auto setting (to maintain the temperature you set) only uses high heat. Low auto isn't an option.
- No automatic shutoff if it tips over. Maybe the overheat protection would take care of it, and it doesn't really get that hot - but I'd think they'd want to have that in a heater with this design.
- The base looks a little big - 12" across - but I suppose it has to be to make the pedestal work.
There's no auto low setting - which was the main reason I wanted this heater, to have something quiet that could maintain the temperature in a bedroom at night. That would also mean it would switch on and off fewer times, and draw less peak electric current. Big oversight on the manufacturer's part.
Though otherwise, it's about as quiet as fan heater could be, I imagine. If you need something quieter, look at something like the DeLonghi HHP1500 Mica Panel Radiator - very quiet, but the heat circulates only by convection (hot air rising), which might not work for all situations.
This heater requires some assembly of the pedestal and base. Just tightening some screws, really, but it's a little cumbersome since the top piece can't rest anywhere given the shape. Just plan on it taking ten minutes or so.

There are multiple model number versions of this heater - 5355, 5365, and 5350 - and as far as I can tell they vary only in the colors and what stores sell them. You can read lots more comments on a similar version of this heater at the HomeDepot website.

The product is raised in the center, and as a result, any liquid, such as pancake batter or eggs, run to the sides. My biggest complaint is that EVERYTHING sticks to the pan. No amount of oil or butter can stop virtually all foods from sticking. I was initially attracted to this product because it has a removable pan. However, it does not heat evenly. I suspect this is because the pan just sits on top of electric coils, and the heat is not distributed evenly. I do not recommend this product!

It went "bonkers" in less than 30 days, so I updated my review and would have downgraded it to "1" star, if I had been able to do so. I replaced the defective scale with the Salter 6055, which was the other scale that I considered purchasing. So far, I'm extremely pleased with the Salter. If it lasts longer than 30 days (the Soehlne didn't), then it's definitely a 5 star piece of equipment. The scale is more compact than the Soehlne, much more "hefty" in feel, and very much easier to use. The on/off, tare, and kg/lb buttons require only a light touch to operate. The readout is clear and actually shows weights in both odd and even amounts. The ounce/lb. readout shows amounts in 1/8 oz. increments; very nice touch. The removeable weighing platform is extremely handy; if you're a "messy" baker, which I am, you don't have to fret about water or soap damage to the electronic components. Based on the short time I've had to try out this item, I'd definitely purchase a Salter product instead of a Soehlne.

You can cook almost anything with this and, eventhough there will be a quarter inch of gunk stuck to the bottom, this will clean right off when you wash up.
One slight criticism: both sides of the pan have changed colour; the bottom has gone more coppery, the top has taken on a dusty look to it. Still works fine, though.

(More customer reviews)I switched from coffee to tea a few months ago, purchased this unit and am completely happy with it ... I can't recommend it highly enough. It's well made, ergonomic, well thought out, and a joy to use. The Japanese think of everything. A Japanese friend of mine told me that homes in Japan almost always have one of these units, or one like it. Now that I drink only tea, I can understand why.
The three temperature settings (well, four if you count boiling) are perfect. 208 is good for herbal teas, tissanes, and also the increasingly popular (and wonderful) Rooibos. That's also a good temperature for ramen, oatmeal, etc. 195 is good for black tea and also oolong, and 175 is good for green tea or white tea. Now, you can make gourmet tea properly with no muss and no fuss. Just get yourself some gourmet loose tea, herbal tea, or Rooibos, (all available from Garrett, Adagio, or Teavana), and a convenient brewer, like "IngenuiTea" from Adagio (Teavana also makes a good one that might be slightly better in quality), and you will be good-to-go! Your taste buds will thank you and so will your body. (The health benefits of green tea and oolong are well-known, and also Rooibos has 30-50 times the antioxidants of green tea, and no caffeine). My blood pressure has dropped 20 points with less caffeine (compared to caffeine in coffee, black tea = 20-25%, oolong = 10-15%, green = 5-10%, white = 1%, rooibos and herbal = 0%).

What impressed me most was the perfect balance, the lightweight, and the sharpness. However, what may be perfect for me may not be perfect for you. I'd recommend anyone who is shopping for cutlery to go to a store and try how the knife feels in your hands before buying. And if you can borrow from a friend to try, that's even better.
Having used this knife for several years now, my initial impressions haven't changed. This is still my favorite knife for most tasks. I maintain it regularly with a steel and it is as sharp as it ever was. I have found though that for certain tasks like cutting slits into an onion for dicing or cutting root vegetables, I do prefer a heavier knife (that's why I bought another forged global knife), but that is just personal preference. All in all, a great general purpose kitchen knife.
