(More customer reviews)My experience was not as good as the other reviewer. This is a very handy thing to have if you don't have a microwave with a built-in turntable. It works well, but it is a bit slow and makes a loud noise as it's spinning. Also, some things are just too light to make it turn. To combat this, I put lightweight items on a heavy plate. The downside is that it breaks very easily if you overwind it. And there's no real gauge for winding, no apparent stopping point. I usually tried to underwind it on purpose. But I guess I wound it a half a spin to far one day and there's no way to fix it. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a better alternative short of buying a microwave with a turntable. So in summary:
Pros: Works well when it works. Heats food evenly
Cons: Breaks easily; Light weights won't make is spin

This knife is a real pleasure to use and the edge is very easy to maintain. I'd rate best in its' class and recommend it highly to anyone who likes using this style of blade. The only qualification I will make is that serrated blades would probably be better suited to people without the ability to do their own sharpening.

Even a modest amount of heat from the cook top below causes the microwave oven's pushbutton door latch to deform (melt?) because Sharp chose to save money with plastic rather than metal interior parts. Thus, either the door won't close or one has to pry the latch open each time. The service technician who replaced the assembly (twice) said he had performed almost a dozen similar replacements in the recent past.
My advice, buy it only if you never plan to use the cook top below.

(More customer reviews)In my opinion, DeLonghi oil-filled portable radiators are one of the best options for safe, reliable room heating. There is nothing to spill, no open flames, and nothing gets so hot that it would burn you instantly. You don't have to fear falling asleep while they are heating. They're nicely designed and unobtrusive, making no noise other than the occasional tick or pop as the thermostat cycles and they heat up or cool down. I find this a comforting reminder that my heater is doing its job. No assembly is required other than rotating the feet out--just pop it out of the box and it's ready to go! The cord has a holder around which it can coil, eliminating the need to tie it up, and since you just wind the cord around it, you don't have to worry that some automatic retraction device will get stuck. This model can be used with the thermostat or without, and both are very simple to operate. All controls were easy to see, even in dim light, and the instructions were clear. It's very easy to move the heater from room to room, even if it is hot, using the little hand-hold. This heater kept a very large bedroom and bath pleasantly warm even on the low setting, while outside temperatures were 36 to 43 degrees, wet, and windy. The color is a tasteful grayish white with dark gray accents, so don't be turned off thinking this is "refrigerator white." I would definitely buy another DeLonghi like this one!

(More customer reviews)These bowls are great. I almost got the set with 4 bowls, but I'm glad I didn't as I think the smallest bowl would have potentially been too small. These bowls are very nicely sized.
I like that it is very easy to store these. Simply put the lids on each bowl and next them inside each other. Do make sure they are dry though if you do this as the lids seal extremely well. I've had covered mixing bowls before and they've always sealed like crap. I'm very pleased with how these seal.
These are of course easy to clean. They are easy to use a hand mixer in. They have a variety of very useful sizes for your needs.
I'm very pleased with these items. I don't think I'd recommend putting the lids in the dishwasher in the long term though as I think it could screw up how well the lids seal. The bowls themselves could easily go into the dishwasher though.

(More customer reviews)I bought the predecessor of this model and it seemed to work fine--both for espresso and regular coffee. That is, until a year after I bought it. Then it began to leak every time I made coffee. It would spill about 1-2 cups on the counter through a overflow hole in the bottom of the unit. I couldn't locate the leak and, as it got worse, I decided to replace the unit. I found the new model and assumed the problem was a one-off. I bought this model at a good price and everything was fine until after 6 months, the same problem occurred. I took the unit completely apart and although I found the leak was coming from a built-in overflow tube next to the feeder tube for the coffee maker, there was simply no reason for water to be running out of the tube. In addition, the carafe or lid is a really bad design because if you don't pour slowly, it leaks all over the counter. All told, this is a frustrating piece of junk.

(More customer reviews)Among my assorted bird's beak paring knives, this one has a special place. There's no hiding place for any transfer of salmonella bacteria from poultry to produce, for this knife is made of a single piece of steel, and the solid handle has good weight. (Not all knives in this line have a solid handle.) Furthermore, it stands up to use and abuse, unlike any other knife I've ever had.
I bought mine in a specialty knife store (which has since gone out of business) close to ten years ago. After a nameless family member helped out in the kitchen, it seemed to have disappeared, and I mourned for this little knife. Turns out said family member had accidentally dumped it in the composter, along with a small mountain of vegetable waste. I boiled it and it rejoined the household.
Comfortable to hold, it does a variety of paring tasks well in the kitchen. Slipperiness mentioned in reviews of other knives in this line has not been a problem. Weight and balance are excellent. I like the completeness with which it can be cleaned.
If you have a kitchen or flower garden, you'll find good uses for it outdoors as well. I grow edible ginger, as well as the kind with flowers. For cutting the rhizome from the plant, this can't be beat. I also use it when it's time to thin the heliconias and strip old leaves off lilies.
In perusing reviews about other knives in this line, there appears to be concern about sharpening the Japanese-made steel. I use a Chantry knife sharpener and find it brings this knife back to an acceptable edge.
BOTTOM LINE: If you like the bird's beak style of paring knife, you are likely to find a use for this one. Amazon's price is excellent. I paid about twice the amount and would recommend it even at that price. If you've never tried a bird's beak paring knife, this one is reasonably priced and especially versatile for the reasons mentioned.

Polder 307 Preset Thermometer, White Review

(More customer reviews)When the first Polder digital probe thermometers came on the market, I bought one to try it out. I have always used a Taylor meat thermometer for roasted meats, poultry, and game. Before I bought the Polder digital probe thermometer, I had been using my Taylor instant read thermometer. With the Polder thermometer, you insert the long metal probe into the meat, poultry or game so that it does not touch a bone. The probe is attached to a heavy wire which then plugs into the temperature unit. The oven door closes tightly over the wire. Then, with my version, you can set an amount of time you want (like a regular timer), and/or you can program in the internal temperature which is appropriate for what you are roasting and how you like it to be cooked. You can then walk away and come back to check the progress of your roast, and you don't have to open the oven door. (This model seems to have eliminated the regular timer feature, which I did not find to be necessary anyway.) I have had excellent results using my Polder Preprogrammed Cooking Thermometer, except I find it does not work for roasting chickens (they seem to be too small for the large probe to get accurate readings). I keep a small chart handy which gives the recommended final internal temperatures for meat, poultry, and game (and for "rare, medium-rare, medium, medium-well, and well-done" preferences). Most times I set the Polder for 5 degrees less than the desired internal temperature because all roasts need to "stand" on the cutting board or platter for at least 15 minutes before carving. (The "standing" ensures that the juices stay in the meat.) I wash the probe by hand and dry it very carefully.
The Polder Preprogrammed Thermometer is great to have, even if you only use it a few times a year. Highly recommended!

I was amazed to see how rare they were and it took a while to track one down.(I was without a computer for a while, so maybe that was why}. I found a great looking one in this product, but was very dissappointed when it died early after 1 1/2 years. I got another one thinking it was just bad luck, but lo and behold. It has just died again of the same problem. The connection on the base gives up. First it will work if you spin it round on the base until the light goes on, but then it just has enough of that and becomes good for nothing. I won't be buying a 3rd. I am looking for a different brand now. For the price, I expected it to last longer than 2 years.

(More customer reviews)I've searched a long time for a decent teakettle. I actually drink a lot of tea, and have been through about 8 teakettles looking for one that I could love. I've found it! This teakettle has a cute little design (the flared bottom) that is also very practical. It covers more surface area, so it boils faster - and it really does. I've always hated the whistle on teapots, and usually find myself tripping over the cats on my way to grab the kettle off the stove because I couldn't handle the noise. This whistle is nice and gentle, it doesn't make me jump out of my skin, and my husband can sleep through it. I haven't experienced the diminished whistle mentioned in other reviews. The handle is comfortable from whichever position you grab it, and high enough so that you aren't burning yourself when you grab it, you can get the lid off easily, and since your hand isn't right over the spout, no danger of steam burns.
The only thing I would recommend is flipping the cover open before you pick up the kettle - it's slightly awkward until you get used to it.
When I was ready to buy a new teapot, I was prepared to spend a lot of money to finally get a decent one. I didn't need to - this economical find has everything I was looking for. I've actually purchased three - one for me, one for my sister-in-law, and one for my mother. We're all very happy!

I have never needed a pot holder to grab the handle. It easily handles tea for two, any more than that and you may want a bigger one. CorningWare French White 7-Piece Bake and Serve Set Review

(More customer reviews)The original "French White" Corningware was made of Corning's famous pyroceramic glass, which could be used on the gas stove, put directly in the freezer, put under the broiler right from the freezer, and oh yes, also used in a microwave. And it was very unlikely to shatter if dropped. If you pounded on it with a hammer and nail you might have gotten it to break.
When World Kitchens bought the license from Corning, they decided to halt production of a line of cookware that would take anything and last forever, and dupe customers, especially brides, into thinking the stoneware "French White" was the same thing as the wonderful French White pyroceramic cookware previously available to their mothers and sisters.
The pattern is very attractive and can be used with any decor, and they do offer many sizes, but this stuff is not, repeat, really not, what people mean when they say "Corningware."
Le Creuset can do most of the above mentioned, but it being metal you cannot use it in the microwave. Stoneware cannot go on top of the stove, and repeated trips from the freezer to the oven will eventually cause it to craze and crack. And stoneware will also chip, and break if dropped, etc. Pyrex glassware cannot go on the gas stove although you can take it from the freezer to the oven, and also microwave it.
The only product which could do anything was pyroceramic, and World Kitchens has chosen to remove it from the market because it is "too good."
They have recently brought back a few of the old square shapes, with the Cornflower, or plain white, calling it "vintage," but the French White shape is not making an appearance yet. If you want it, email them and ask for it!
Meanwhile, don't buy this stuff. Get Le Creuset for cooking and roasting (yes it is expensive but it lasts forever and cooks beautifully), and reheat things in Pyrex in the microwave.

Oxo Good Grips Uplift Teakettle Review

(More customer reviews)Lifting this teakettle by the handle opens the pour spout. No button to press or gadget to fiddle with to open the spout. Actually the angle you hold the pot at determines whethere the spout will open or not. It will always be open when in the "pour" position. In the more "level" carrying position just a tilt of the angle will change it from closed to open. It may sound kind of strange or uncontrollable, but it is very easy to manage.
It's made of sturdy stainless steel. It looks nice, though very sleek and modern compared to all those "cute" teakettles out there. Plus it has an additional larger opening for cleaning! (You cant get inside most other teakettles.)
One thing that you may not like about this teakettle: The "whistle" is a lower tone than traditional kettles, actually, it's more of a hum. Some people find it annoying. I personally think the sound is more "musical" than the older whistling types. (I find that old-style whistle far more annoying than the pleasant hum of my OXO).
If you are the type of person that wants everything as fast as possible, then there is one other negative . You cant put this kettle on high heat due to the rubber handle. I find it only takes a minute or two longer to bring it to heat, but if you are the harried sort who wants things pronto, this might annoy you.
I am disabled and have very limited use of my hands, but I have no problem using this product. Actually I use it with great ease. Until now, I have been able to use NO other teakettle. All the other teakettles I have seen (and tried) require more dexterity than I have. (I am a C5/6 incomplete quadriplegic, if you need to know). Also, my mother has arthritis in her hands and this product is much easier for her to use than her old standby.
For me it's a practically perfect product.

(More customer reviews)I had been searching the stores for egg rings with no luck & was pleased to see a pair on Amazon so ordered them right away. I couldn't believe how FAST the shipping was, I ordered them on Saturday afternoon & had them by Monday! Wow. The wooden handles stay cool & the fold-up feature is great for storing in a drawer. The only thing I could say not favorable about them is that sometimes egg sticks in the joint where the handle fits into the ring, but that is minor. I use them every weekend.
