Rachael Ray Tools 2-Piece Silicone Pastry Brush Set, Blue Review

After trying different pastry brushes and having them fall apart, I decided to look for a silicone one. Some of them look and feel really flimsy. These are very nice, and I am happy with them, although they're still too new for me to judge their longevity. One thing you should know is that they are not one solid piece. I was hoping they were so that they wouldn't get gross the way spatulas can get. But the silicone brush part can be removed completely, and the cavity is large enough to be able to wash (unlike the spatula slits that are impossible to get clean). Overall, I think they are good. They did take a long time to arrive, (the longer shipping time was made clear in the item description so I wasn't upset) but I thought I should point that out so others are aware too.

Cuisinart Classic Stainless Steel 8-Piece Cookware Set Review

Although this Cuisinart Classic stainless set is a big improvement over discount store cookware, Amazon also sells Cuisinart's higher quality, though confusingly similarly named, Chef's Classic set for just a few dollars more. The Chef's Classic set has more substantial construction, with professional handles and stainless steel lids. For the few extra dollars it's probably the best value and performance in a stainless set, short of full tri-clad construction such as All-Clad or Cuisinart's own Multi-clad.
BTW, the top ratings from online cooking sites are for the step-up Chef's Classic set, rather than this item.

Panasonic NI-C78SR Steam/Dry Iron with Stainless-Steel Soleplate Review

Panasonic NI-C78SR Steam/Dry Iron with Stainless-Steel Soleplate

Very nice iron - especially for the price I paid on Amazon.com. Has a removable water tank which makes it easier to fill without making a mess. Nice, very polished stainless steel soleplate which glides easily over clothes. Has an anti-calcium system to prevent buildup caused by hard water which can block the steam system. Another nice feature is the power cord retractor - which works very well.

Steam out wrinkles quickly and easily with this 1200-watt iron. The unit's stainless-steel curved nonstick soleplate provides smooth, gentle gliding, and its temperature ranges from 176 to 392 degrees F to accommodate a variety of different fabrics. Turn the temperature dial to choose from five fabric settings; a handy reference chart for fabrics and temperatures comes printed on the iron's base. For added convenience, use the iron's push-button spray mist to direct extra moisture where it's needed most or the jet-of-steam function for a powerful burst of steam to blast away stubborn wrinkles--or to clean the steam vents after ironing. Its adjustable steam allows for selecting the right amount of steam for the job--regular steam for heavier material or light steam for quick touch-ups; or choose the "dry" setting for no steam output. With the push of a button, the iron can also be used to vertically steam drapery, hanging garments, and other household items. To ensure safety, its electronic sensor automatically shuts off the iron after 10 minutes if left upright on its heel rest or after 60 seconds if left unmoved on its soleplate or if tipped over on its side. Other highlights include a see-through 5-2/5-ounce water tank that detaches for easy filling, an anti-calcium system that keeps vents free from build-up, and a push-button retractable cord reel for tidy cord storage. With its Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval, the iron measures 10-2/5 by 4-2/7 by 5-2/7 inches.

Cuisinart Green Gourmet Eco-Friendly Skillets Review

Cuisinart Green Gourmet Eco-Friendly Skillets

I am an avid home chef and a fervent hater of nonstick cookware. I went through so many sets of nonstick in my early married years, everything from the $30 "whole kitchen in a box" set I got as wedding gift to a "top of the line" set that my mother-in-law gave me years later. I babied the stuff, but it still wound up scratched and peeling and in the trash. And, I never liked the cooking performance of any of it. So, many years ago I threw it all out and bought an 18/10 stainless set- which I love and praise to anyone who will listen, and have never had to replace a single piece of. BUT, even I will admit that it's tough to get a decent fried egg from a stainless pan, so I kept an 8" nonstick skillet around just for that purpose. It was needing to be replaced so I decided to go with hard anodized. Hesitantly, I was going to get another brand with the teflon type finish. Then I saw this, and liked the idea of the the ceramic type finish. I can't tell you how much I love this pan. It fries beautifully. Sears salmon and steaks. Cleans with a wipe and a rinse. I have had this for a couple of months, used it MANY times, and am getting ready to buy the 12" for bigger jobs. Even my 8 year old can make beautiful(no tears)fried eggs with it. Oh, and did you know that you can thaw meats faster in it. Hard anodized is an amazing conducter of heat, so it pulls the cold out of the food. Just set it on the counter (covered) and wait about 20 minute (depends on thickness of the meat) turn it over once and voila you have thawed meat.

Cook up delicious, healthy meals for your family with the environmentally minded Cuisinart Green Gourmet Hard Anodized 12-inch open skillet with helper handle, featuring Cuisnart's new energy-efficient and eco-friendly Cermica nonstick surface. But more than just reducing your carbon footprint, this new nonstick coating allows for easy food release and the ability to use less fat while cooking as well as for use in the oven for browning.
From eggs at breakfast to fish, chicken, or steak at dinnertime, this 12-inch open skillet is a great all-round performer. This pan also delivers superior heat conductivity, requiring less energy to achieve the desired cooking temperature. Harder than stainless steel, the skillet's hard anodized exterior is dense, nonporous, and highly wear-resistant for extra durability and professional performance as well as quick and even heat distribution. Additionally, the securely riveted stay-cool steel handle--featuring a V-shaped base so that heat dissipates--is manufactured using 70 percent recycled stainless steel and is oven-safe to 500 degrees F, so food can be browned on the stovetop then transferred to the oven to finish cooking.
Cuisinart's GreenGourmet cookware is designed with an exclusive Cuisinart Ceramica nonstick surface, which features a petroleum-free, ceramic-based coating that is applied at a temperature one half that of traditional nonsticks. The coating does not contain PTFE and PFOA, substances often used in nonstick cookware that have raised health concerns over the years. It was also developed using manufacturing techniques that reduce harmful carbon emissions by consuming less energy. The coating is also water-based, unlike other nonstick coatings on the market, which are solvent-based. In addition, Cuisinart's cookware has a scratch-resistant nonstick surface that won't peel off. The new cookware conforms to FDA and European RoHS standards for environmentally sound products.
This pan should be hand-washed with a mild detergent, and it carries a limited lifetime warranty against defects. Cuisinart also gets some green cred from the packaging, which is made from 100 percent recycled materials and is printed using 100 percent biodegradable soy ink. --Agen G.N. I am a recent convert to cast iron cookware. I thought the stuff my mother used was old fassioned. Boy, was I wrong!!! Cast iron is great! Even heat distribution, non-stick (follow the instructions), and it doesn't slide around on the burner because it is heavy. I had to learn a bit about curing and cleaning but now that I have it down this is better than any stainless steel or non-stick cookware. WARNING - the handles get hot, the lids get hot and don't drop it on your toes. You will notice on the high end cookware that they always advertise how thick the pot bottoms are or how the multiple layers of metal distribute heat evenly - well cast iron does this naturally. Great pot - CAST IRON RULES (don't wait 50 years to find out)

Cuisinart Chef's Classic Nonstick Hard-Anodized 12-Inch Everyday Pan with Medium Dome Cover Review

Cuisinart Chef's Classic Nonstick Hard-Anodized 12-Inch Everyday Pan with Medium Dome Cover
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Let me start off by saying that my main cookware set is the Anolon Titanium set that cost $399 when we got it in 2003. I love these pans because they are heavy-duty, nonstick because of the titanium, and dishwasher safe because of the titanium. Well, I wanted to add an "everyday" sort of pan to my collection because the Anolon set is VERY heavy and takes up lots of space, so I wanted something a little ligher weight for easier handling, but still large enough to cook for larger dinner parties AND easy to clean. So we looked at 12" pans and skillets and we decided on this one, the Cuisinart Chef's Classic Non-Stick Hard Anodized 12-Inch Everyday Pan with Cover.
For what you get in this set...the 12" pan and the covered lid...you cannot beat the price for the quality. For one, it uses a "quantanium" coating for its nonstick base...this is basically a nonstick coating reinforced with titanium, so it can withstand higher temps (oven safe to 500 degrees) and is scratch resistent. I don't use metal utensils anyway, so I can't attest to this...but it has been great so far!
The nonstick is great...makes clean up easy, which is very important to me as free time is very scarce in this household! I haven't thrown the pan into the dishwasher, but the lid gets tossed in and it's been fine. The pan itself cleans so easily that just a soapy nonabrasive sponge is all it takes to get the pan to brand new condition.
The pan also heats up very evenly. I cooked sauteed chicken in the pan and every single piece was evenly cooked. The pieces on the edges of the pan was just as cooked as the ones in the middle of pan. Makes for great cooking when you don't have to fuss about repositioning the food every few minutes for even heat distribution!
I also love the short handles because I always bump into the longer skillet handles when I'm cooking up a storm and I don't bump into this pan. I can also use this on the back burners too because of the short handles. You just can't "toss" your food like you can with a skillet. Use a towel or oven mitt when you touch the handles or the lid because they do get hot...but that's fine with me anyway because I don't like getting hot grease splattered on my hands anyway!
Overall, I am very impressed with this pan, and at a fraction of the price of similar items and nowhere near the cost of my Anolon Titanium set, it's a bargain!

At first I bought a 12-cup nonstick mini muffin pan at Bed Bath and Beyond but I soon realized that 12 is not enough when it comes to mini muffins since any normal size recipe easy makes 3 times that many. So I bought this 24-cup pan and I really like it. The nonstick is great; the muffin pop out of the tin easily when they're done and clean up is easy too. Really, I paid almost the same for the smaller pan, but this one is much better. My husband likes to bake and says he can tell the difference too.

Chef's Secret 22-Piece Element Super Set Review

Chef's Secret 22-Piece Element Super Set
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Hi y'all,
If you've read any of my other reviews, you know I try to tell you what I think about the item, rather than gush or slam emotionally.
I got on the waterless cookware research kick after attending a Saladmaster party. I loved the idea of waterless for the health benefits and flavor of the food, as well as the quality of construction of the surgical steel pieces. My husband is a full time seminary student, and I homeschool our children. There is no way we will ever be in a position where $2000-5000 for a set of cookware will be a good buy in our opinions. I am not impugning Saladmaster, at all. I'm saying we can't afford it, and even if we could, I don't have it in me to shell out that much money for pans.
What anyone considering this cookware needs to consider is that waterless is a distinctive, and probably a new way of cooking. It requires adjustment in practice and thinking unless you already cook waterless. The idea is to cook the foods at a low enough temperature (212 degrees F or less) and with as little liquid as possible so that the majority of the nutrients are not cooked out and additional calories from fats/oils/grease are not cooked in. The natural flavors of the food really do come out when cooking waterless. It is a technique that requires a little patience and maybe some practice if you are in the habit of bringing something to a boil and cooking it until it is done. Waterless cookware does not mean you won't burn dinner if you are not paying attention. That is not to say you can't use these pans exactly the way you use other cookware--with water. If you want to cook waterless, you have to be in the kitchen until the steam valve whistles so you can turn the heat down to low or off. The food continues to cook from the steam and it's own liquid. The instruction manual that comes with the cookware has recommended cooking times for vegetables, and those should be followed because when all the liquid evaporates, the food will burn. If you're leaving the burner on, and you're leaving the kitchen, set a timer to come back and turn the burner off. Also, you have to use the right size pan for the amount of food you're preparing. The bottom of the pan needs to be covered with food, or the natural moisture in the food and the little water that clings to rinsed off vegetables cooks out too fast, and the food will burn. Other waterless cookbooks are avaliable, and I recommend getting one so that you can learn how to adjust your favorite recipes to the waterless cooking method. I found other sets on-line, and the affordable ones are made by Maxam--if you have Maxam, World's Finest, Chef's Secret or Steam Control, Maxam made it. The expensive ones are made by Regal--Saladmaster, West Bend, etc. Regal sets are made of T317 (grade)surgical steel, and there is little difference in quality between the T317 and T304. Maxam offers T304 surgical stainless steel in 5, 7, and 9 ply (layer) construction, though I've been told the nomenclature has changed slightly so that the layers are more easily understood. Mom gave me a set of the 9 ply, and it is fabulous.
The quality is outstanding. The company has been in business since the 1950s, and when you look at and use the pans you can see why. They have a mirror finish and are very heavy, especially compared to standard metal cookware--even stainless steel. The multi-layer construction is incomparable to the standard 18/10 stainless I'm replacing, and I was using one of the nicer sets. The handles are sturdy and stay cool when cooking. The set is completely self-stacking, which is significant. Other cookware can be stacked, but the lids slide around, and the cookware slips off if it isn't balanced just right. These lids lie flat under the rim of the pan, which makes a flat surface for the next pan to set on. Nothing slides around or crashes the second you close the cabinet. The set comes with a lifetime warranty, excluding handles. I don't expect the handles to wear out in the next several years because they look sturdy, but if they do need to be replaced, they can be easily replaced with a screwdriver (as opposed to having to replace the whole pan when the handle comes off) and they are inexpensive to purchase from the company.
The price is excellent. You can't walk in Linens & Things or Dillard's/Foley's/Macy's and get a full set of cookware of this quality for the price. You probably can't even get a bigger set. Most of these waterless sets run between $200-300, depending on which ply you choose. Some websites charge more than $300, but do not pay it. There are too many out there that sell for $300 or less. Even if the handles break, or you drop one and break your foot, you can buy 10 sets of this waterless and still come out cheaper than the any of the Regal lines.
Clean up could not be easier. The pans are all dishwasher safe, and everything comes off by hand very easily. I scorched butter beans last week. I was not sure how much water was needed to cook dried beans, nor how long to cook them, and I burned the bottom layer badly. Butter beans(large lima)are very starchy, and nothing is more difficult to scrape off of a pan besides blackened, carmelized, starch. I followed the directions in the manual by scraping out that which could be salvaged, adding water to the pan, returning it to the stove, and bringing the water to a boil. When it was boiling, I scraped the scorched food off with a wooden spatula. I have have not had burned food come off teflon that easily. My standard stainless was a real pain to clean up when things burned--I've had to do the dryer sheet trick, and not had alot of luck with that. I don't generally burn dinner, but we've all done it occasionally. I was actually worried about having to clean this one up because the pans were brand new, and I didn't want to scratch them to get the black off. I need not have worried.
I really like this set, and I won't buy any other kind of cookware. This set passed the Saladmaster baking soda test, and the fresh/frozen vegetables I have cooked in it taste better than they do when cooked in standard cookware. The meats have been more flavorful, juicier, more tender, and absorbed the seasonings better. It takes less time to cook dinner, and l don't have to worry about a pot boiling over. I am glad that more of the nutrients are staying in the food I cook, and the price is unbeatable. I don't know whether or not you can boil an egg with a wet paper towel in these or not (because I haven't tried it yet), but for less than $300 and better quality than the mall, I don't care.

I've owned more expensive cookware sets, but this moderately priced set from KitchenAid ranks with the best of them. All of my previous cookware was stainless steel or low-end aluminum, so I was not sure what to expect in terms of durability. However, this set has exceeded my expectations. The pans are wonderful to cook with, the non-stick coating beats anything I've tried before, the lids fit tightly, and the insulated handles make oven mitts unnecessary. I love how light the pans are -- even full they are easy to lift and pour from. One note of caution: The domed lids and upright lid handles mean these pans require a bit more storage space than other sets I've used.

I bought these mixing spoons (as well as the paula deen wooden turners) off amazon last month. There was sort of a laquer/finish on them, and after the FIRST USE the finish wore off and the wood looked very dry and dull. I was cooking spaghetti sauce, so maybe you aren't supposed to use them with hot dishes, but they are wooden spoons...I expect to be able to cook with them.
I have used them very lightly, and not too often, and after only a month, the wood is splintering and chipping on the ends.
Very disappointed. For the price, I was expecting better quality, but in my opinion the dollar store wooden spoons are better quality than these.

I've been wanting this pan for a while now, so when I found it on sale for $8.50 at a retail store I had to buy it. It's beautiful, brown on the inside and olive on the outside. I would have no reservations setting it on the table for company. For the maiden voyage I just made a loaf of cinnamon bread, and it rose and browned wonderfully. Since the description only spoke of quick breads I was hesitant, but if you're a yeast bread baker buy this pan! The only downside is that it's made in China (but most things are these days), so I hope that the quality control is strict because it is glazed and I wouldn't want any toxic colorants to be used in the glaze. (I bought this to get away from my aluminum loaf pans, so I really don't want to trade one toxin for another.)

Revere 1400 Line 7-Piece Set Review

Revere 1400 Line 7-Piece Set
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
With the purchase of this set, I now own Revere ware made in at least three different locations. I own 16 older pieces made in Clinton, IL in the U.S., four unmarked double boiler and steamer inserts from the same vintage, one tea kettle made in China, and now this set of 7 pieces made in Indonesia, which I just purchased for a guest kitchen.
While these Indonesian made pieces are the same style and sizes as the older U.S. made pieces, they are not manufactured in the same way. The primary difference is in the bottoms. The finish on the copper on the bottoms is rougher, and more importantly, the bottoms are slightly warped. The bottoms can be popped in to be slightly concave, or popped out to be slightly convex, but they aren't flat. In addition, the tops don't fit perfectly snugly.
That's quite different from the older Revere ware pieces manufactured in Clinton IL, whose bottoms are flat and are much smoother. For this reason, you should be skeptical of recommendations for Revere ware which mention how they've been in use for many decades, since those recommendations are likely based on the better quality pieces made years ago, rather than the pieces now available.
All that said, most of the pieces in this Indonesian made set are serviceable. While the skillet might not be perfect for pan frying, the saucepans and dutch oven should be fine for sauces, soups, or other water based cooking. The copper on the bottoms appears thick enough to even out the heat distribution, unlike the copper plate found on some cheap knockoffs. At this price, the set is acceptable as an inexpensive starter set that will do for a casual cook - or for use until one can afford high end pieces from places like Williams Sonoma, or used U.S. made Revere ware from auction sites.

This is a well made non-stick skillet that not only cooks well but is better for you and the enviroment. Quality construction, made in the USA for less carbon footprint and I am totally amazed at how great the nonstick is on this pan, clean up is a breeze and if you follow the manufacturer's direction for use and care this pan will last you for years! Will be buying a larger one soon.....

Definitely one of the most popular cookware items, the skillet offers a broad wide base and gently curved sides that make it easy to flip food or effortlessly slide an omelet or grilled cheese sandwich from the pan to a plate. Measuring approximately 12-1/5 by 21-1/2 by 3-1/5 inches, this useful 12-inch skillet comes in handy for making anything from omelets or silver-dollar pancakes to sauteed vegetables or fried cubes of tofu to throw into an Asian-inspired dish.
Permanently bonded to a thick, pure-aluminum center disk, the cookware's professional-grade stainless-steel construction delivers precise, even heating with no hot spots to worry about. It also utilizes the environmentally friendly Eco-Satin nonstick system in place of a standard PFOA nonstick surface, which means no hazardous air pollutants are emitted during the manufacturing process. Even more, the pan can be safely used on all cooking surfaces, including induction, and it transitions easily from stovetop to conventional oven (up to 500 degrees F). Best of all, its riveted stainless-steel handle remains cool to the touch on the stovetop, and it sports a convenient hanging loop for easy storage between uses. Packaged in 70-percent recycled materials that can be completely recycled for environmentally friendly disposal, the USA-made skillet carries a limited lifetime warranty and should be hand washed to protect the nonstick coating.

Paula Deen 3 Quart Stack & Steamer, Stainless Steel Review

Paula Deen 3 Quart Stack and Steamer, Stainless Steel

We recently ordered this steamer and were pleasantly surprised at how well constructed it was and how well it works. Both the pot and steamer insert are heavier weight than comparable steamers, and appear to be as durable as they are attractive. The copper bottom heats up quickly and evenly, and the knob on the lid does not get too hot to handle. It can steam enough vegetables for 3-4 people. Make sure you read the label and soak the copper bottom 20 min. in baking soda solution before use to remove its protective coating.

Childhood memories are so important to me. My copper bottom pots and pans remind me of the treasured time I had with my mother. Cooking with friends and family is so much more fun when you have the right tools, and these pans will give you pleasure for years. In fact, I hope you'll pass them along to loved ones, a time honored tradition in our family.
